  2. Doesn't work on all platforms. Mendeley currently has 2 versions of their product - Mendeley Desktop/Word Plugin and Mendeley Reference Manager/Mendeley Cite. Neither work on all Mac operating systems and the new version is still in development so it's not fully functional.
